Racing On Grouse (2009-12-14) (Racing)
Racing on Grouse
The Race Organizing Committee (ROC) of Grouse Tyee will be running 5 Races during 2009/2010 season, two zone races and three Club Races. To put on a ski race takes the help of many individuals. We will need the help of ALL club members to make these races a success. Please mark these dates on you calendar, come out and cheer on our racers, do a little work, and have some fun.
Teck K1 Zone SL
Saturday January 30th and Sunday 31st.
Over 120 K1 (11 and 12 year old) racers from around the zone will compete in two days of racing. The racers will compete in a 1 run Stubby Slalom on Saturday morning and a 1 run full gate Slalom in the afternoon. Sunday the K1's will have a chance to race a full two run SL on Centennial. We will need over 60 volunteers to make this race happen. Come out and get involved!
The Second Annual Rio Tinto Alcan “Tyee Cup”
Saturday March 6th & Sunday March 7th
The Second Annual Tyee Cup will be open to all E2 (Kstar) racers in the zone and will be run on the weekend of March 6th and 7th. It will consist of four starts: a one run stubbie SL and a one run full gate SL on Saturday, a one run Kombi and one run GS on Sunday. This late season race will provide an effective transition for the zone's E2 athletes moving up to K1 by providing them with an opportunity to run a real SL, Kombi and GS. We hope that all families in the club come out and help make this race as successful and fun as it was last year.
Grouse Tyee Club Race Series
This three races series will give all our athletes from NGSL to K2 a chance to come out and race their friends, win some prizes, and have a good time. These races will allow our athletes to compare themselves to everyone in the club and see how their skiing is progressing. Races are also great social events where parents can come together, have some fun, do a little work, and cheer on our racers. Plus, it allows our race organizers and volunteers a chance to hone their skills in a low-key environment so when we hold a big race, we will all be ready to put on a great event.
Grouse Tyee Club Series Schedule:
Race 1: Wednesday December 30th , for Kstars, K1's and K2's, Parents and Coaches (NGSL racers can race if they are brought up by their parents)
Race 2: During Olympics in February stay tuned for more details.
Race 3: Saturday March 27th Tyee Day This fun non-timed race is a perfect opportunity for parents to try the gates, race their kids, and have a great time.
Putting on a fair, safe, and fun ski race requires many volunteers. We need your help to make these races happen. To volunteer for any race, please email me at race@grousetyee.com and I will find a job for you. No previous experience or skiing ability is required. Everyone is welcome. If you have previous experience or would like to try a specific job, let me know. This is an event to have fun with and learn from. If you have any questions, suggestions, or concerns, feel free to contact me. Thanks for your time. I'm looking forward to working with all of you soon
