Fall Dryland Program
Growth and maturation research tells us of the importance of acquiring physical skills (agility, balance, coordination, speed) before the big growth spurt kicks in during the teenage years. This period has to be looked at as an opportunity to expose and teach the youngsters as much general athletic knowledge as possible.
Furthermore, as they hit puberty, muscles, bones, ligaments and tendons stretch and grow. During this period it is key to continue working on the above skills if the individual is to adapt to their new bodies and progress to specific athletic skills. It is also the easiest way to improve your on-snow performance!
With that in mind, Grouse Mtn Tyee is proud to announce our fall dryland training program, open to all Tyee racers NGSL, MtnStar, KStar K1, K2 and VST. Kids younger than 8 are welcome to the sessions, however for safety reasons they should be independent and able to follow coaches' instructions. VST racers should confirm with their coaches about which sessions to attend.
The goal for these fitness sessions is to improve our kids aerobic power and capacity through agility, plyometrics, balance and speed work through a variety of interesting exercises. Sessions will progress in specificity and intensity. Of course all of the activities will keep motivation and fun factor in mind. These sessions are designed by Tyee and run in cooperation with other clubs in our zone so you may see your buddies from other clubs. Groups will be split by age and ability so that the activities can be best optimized.
Field Dryland Sessions

There is no cost for the fall field dryland sessions are included for all kids as a membership perk.
Tyee Mountain Biking
After successful summer sessions, our very own mountain biking coaches are keen to run another fall of trail riding on Fromme/Mt Seymour. Details to follow.
Gymnastics at Flicka
Our summer gymnastics program was extremely successful and we have established a timeslot in Flicka's busy schedule. Gymnastics is the root of all athleticism and the base of all sports so this is not one you want to miss! Details to follow.
Dryland Testing
Coast Zone Dryland Testing will take place on Sep 11 and November 20. Dryland tests are for kids all ages. Although the kids like comparing their scores to each other, the main focus is to benchmark and measure own fitness improvements in each training block. The coaches also look at the various tests to identify any potential weaknesses and imbalances in the racer’s bodies. There is no cost for the dryland testing and all kids are invited. Click here for details on the time and location.
Although attending all of the sessions is optimal for progression, you can attend the any combination of the scheduled sessions. If your family is already involved in other sports during the school year, we encourage you to pursue those sports 100%. You can use our fitness program as a supplement and expose the kids to ski specific movements.
