Grouse Mountain and Tyee Ski Club are proud to announce that our years of partnership have created and fostered some High Performance Athletes at the Provincial and National Team levels. These Ski Racers have grown up on our hill in most cases graduating from our Ski Wee program on to the Tyee Ski Club. They learned how to snow plow on The Cut and then whooped it up through the trees of Paper Trail.

	Currently we have two Tyees, Kristina Natalenko and Antonia Wearmouth, racing on the BC Ski Team. Sam Mulligan is racing for the National Development Team and Georgia Simmerling, who just came off her Bronze medal win in Track Team Pursuit at the Rio Olympics is back in action on the World Stage in Ski Cross. All Four of these athletes are already very accomplished but are striving for even greater heights. To get to the top you have to be skilled and driven but unfortunately that’s not enough. The journey is an expensive one. That’s where Grouse Mountain Resort ski enthusiasts come in.

	It’s never been easier to help our top level athletes. All you have to do is go to the link below and donate to Tyee’s fundraising project at the National Sports Trust Fund. NSTF is a registered charity whose mandate is to manage fundraising for amateur sport. They are able to accept funds from donors and issue a tax receipt. NSTF provides funding to Tyee which Tyee is able to use to offer a bursary to high performing athletes. This link takes you directly to the Grouse Mountain Tyee Ski Club donation page:

	Racing at the Provincial and National Levels is the dream of many of our younger racers. We are incredibly fortunate to have Tyee skiers who are reaching these heights already for our kids to look up to. Thanks in advance for your continued support.

                    [title] => Tyee Skier Sam Mulligan Named to World Cup Team
                    [link] => http://www.grousetyee.com/?page=clubnews/1061
                    [description] =>

	Sam Mulligan has gone from eating hot dogs in the Tyee cabin to the Canadian National Ski Team. Mulligan, 21 received the news recently that he’d been promoted to the senior team from the development squad. He’ll now be going head to head with Marcel Hirscher and Kjetil Jansrud on a regular basis.

	Sam says he wouldn’t be the skier he is today without The Grouse Mountain Tyee Ski Club.

	“I had so much fun, and I will say my best friends are the ones I grew up skiing with. I think that speaks to the families involved and the culture in this club. This club has definitely shaped me, especially in the way I approach work with a positive attitude. I also race well in the rain thanks to Tyee!”

	Mulligan had a taste of the World Cup in 2018 on what many consider the most terrifying course in the world in Kitzbühel, Austria.

	“About a week before Kitz, I found out Erik (Guay) wouldn’t be healthy enough, and that I would be racing. Leading in to the race I tried to stay even keel and treat it like a usual race. Racing in a place like Kitzbuhel takes a different level of focus, so you can’t really afford to get caught up in the moment. After the race was over, even though I wasn’t great, it felt amazing to take a moment and appreciate where I was and enjoy that milestone.”

	Our little gem of a hill on the North Shore might not be Kitzbuhel but it has some amazing terrain. The runs that we love to ski helped get Mulligan to the top level of racing.

	  “My Favourite run is Purgatory. Everyone’s favourite run is Purgatory! I also love ripping down the Peak at sunset.”

	Mulligan is anxiously awaiting the start of his first full World Cup season. Even though it's still months away he already has his goals set.

	“Ski with confidence, regardless of the environment. To continue to ski fast in ALL disciplines, and most importantly, to continue having FUN!”

	It sounds like Sam learned more than how to hammer down a dog in the cabin while skiing for Tyee. Good Luck Sam.

	Congratulations to Ben Nelson. He is the U12 Athlete of the Month for February. We asked Ben about some of his likes and dislikes as well as his skiing loves and goals. Here’s some insight into one of our Tyee U12 athletes.

	Let’s talk food! Pulled pork sandwiches are my favourite, besides spaghetti bolognese. Don’t even think about serving me mango cheese or that thick, white icing you get on birthday cakes.

	Outside of skiing I like to play music, write stories and draw comics. In the off season I really enjoy playing baseball.

	Each summer I look forward to traveling with my family on canoe and camping trips and spending time at my Grandparent's cabin on Keats Island playing with friends.

	For skiing, I want to get better at setting goals, improving angulation as well as anticipating what's ahead. I like taking what I learn in Tyee and applying it to free-skiing too. I'm using Dynastar skis, Look bindings and Lange boots for training and racing and Atomic Bent Chetler's for free-skiing.

	I enjoy reading the Macdonald Hall book series by Gordon Korman and I recently saw Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle. It was great!

	To conclude, Tyee is great; we get to experience awesome places to ski, such as Manning Park. That was a blast. The Sun Peaks race is particularly my favourite. Another great thing about Tyee: Toblerones in the cabin!

	Thanks to all of the coaches (Hi Dave)!
