Report Grouse hike and pot luck July 18, 2010 (Social)

Short report from Gogi about the Grouse hike and pot luck at the cabin on 18 July 2010:

We met at the base of the Grouse at 9:30 and hiked up/along the Baden Powell trail to the junction with the Larsen trail where we headed left/up towards Grouse. Kids did a great job hiking the steep and rough trail and crossing over the fallen logs. After some time we merged with the BCMC trail and we hiked up to the chalet. We headed to the cabin where we shared some delicious (I mean really delicious) food and refreshing (I mean really refreshing) drinks. Only the brave ones decided to hike down the Skyline trail instead of going to the gondola. It was beautiful hike on a lovely day with delicious food (how can you ask for more).
Highlight of the day: Potato salad (sorry, recipe is secret)
Star of the day: Sunny (who hiked up the Larsen trail and back down the Skyline trail)

Hi!

I am starting my summer training already for next season and am looking for sponsorship to help me pursue my career. I competed in the Olympics at Whistler this past season which definitely helped me move another step in the right direction! The experience was incredible...

Please see the attached pdf cover letter my agent and I have put together. I hope it interests you, or anyone you know who may be willing to support an elite athlete with financial short falls that unfortunately must to be addressed in order to move forward.

Thank you, and hope to hear from you soon!
K2 dryland camp 10 - 14 July 2010 (Fitness)

To K2 drylanders:

The dryland camp takes place from 10 - 14 July.

Schedule:

Saturday 10 July: regular dryland at Brockton Oval 10-12 am
Sunday 11 July: Sport readiness assessment at Mahon Park 3 - 5 pm
Monday 12 July: Slacklining and balance at Grand Boulevard between 15th and 16th Street, North Vancouver, 6 - 8.30 pm
Tuesday 13 July: Mountainbiking (endurance uphill); meet at Matt's place (#1875 Riverside Dr, North Vancouver) at 6 pm. End 8 pm
Wednesday 14 July: regular dryland at Mahon Park 6-7.30 pm.

Sport Readiness assessment: This is a test of basic movement skills. Mastery of fundamental movements is essential for complete athletic development and injury prevention. When the underlying basic movement skills are poor it is very hard to improve performance and sport specific skills of an athlete. Especially at an age when the athletes are growing and the body is struggling to adapt to the new situation, it is important to test these basic movement skills and help the athlete in maintaining fundamental movement patterns which will decrease the risk of injury and forestall poor posture and body mechanics which are an impediment for further athletic development.

See you soon.

The Grouse Mountain Tyee Ski Club continued its Corporate Sponsorship Program this past year and the results were again outstanding with 20 sponsors now supporting the club. Funding increased to over $40,000 in donations and $7500 in services and supplies used by the club.
Grind for Kids (Fundraising)

Grind for Kids

Make Every Grind Count

Puddles. Bicycles. Homemade fishing rods and tea parties for Teddy. These are the things that should occupy kids. Not debilitating illness, undiagnosed disease, and extended stays in the pediatrics unit. Whistler Water, Grouse Mountain and BC Children’s Hospital Foundation are aligned in the belief that together we can ensure that kids are given the chance to be kids.

Grind for Kids is a brand-new fundraising initiative that uses one of Vancouver’s most iconic natural features- The Grouse Grind- to raise money and awareness for the incredible work of BC Children’s Hospital, a world-class care facility for children that touches almost every young life at one time or another throughout the province.

The program will appeal to fitness-minded Vancouverites (and visitors), many of whom already include the famed “Grouse Grind” as part of their fitness routine. The concept is simple. Sign up. Collect pledges. Do the Grouse Grind. Raise a mountain of money for BC Children’s Hospital!

Once registered, each participant gets a personal webpage that they can use to send pledge requests, record grinds completed and share information and goals. Participants collect pledges for every time they tackle the trail. In the inaugural season of what will become an annual program, a large but achievable fundraising goal of $1 million has been set.

The program also has a panel of Ambassadors, who are key leaders in the sport, fitness, and business community. All of the ambassadors will be calling upon their wide network of connections to raise funds for the program and recruit more participants.

How you can help:

· Familiarize yourself with the program by visiting www.grindforkids.com . Here you can also join the various social media groups, refer the program to friends, sign up, or pledge someone you know.

· Sign up for the program and start fundraising and doing the Grind. Staying fit has never produced so much for health, yours and the kids.

· You can celebrate your support of the Grind for Kids campaign by:

o Promoting the program to your colleagues, friends, family or social circles to gather pledges and spread the word

o Promoting your participation and support through social media channels

So hit the Grind this season with some support from your friends. Who knows? For a BC kid it might just mean the difference between a summer in a bed and a summer on a beach.

We are happy to report a high-profile press conference announcing Grind for Kids on June 15th at 2:30. Among the attendees of this will be BC Minister of Health Services Hon. Kevin Falcon, Vancouver Whitecaps CEO Paul Barber, Grouse Mountain President Stuart McLaughlin, Vancouver Giants Vice President Dale Saipe, and more.

The Grind for Kids initiative will run from June 15th, 2010 through September 15th, 2010 (in conjunction with the Grouse Grind Mountain Run, the culminating event of the season).
May Long Weekend - SuperCamp Update (Training)

MAY LONG WEEKEND - SUPERCAMP UPDATE

Hello Tyees!

Hope everybody has been enjoying the wonderful weather we've been having this past week. It looks like the weather will be colorful for the Spring SuperCamp, so be prepared for anything!

We have a record high signup for the May long weekend camp with over 70 racers, 10 Grouse Tyee coaches and 4 guest coaches.

The mountain is open for spring skiing from 10am to 4pm. We have a slight change to loading location because representatives from various ski companies will have demo skis ready for the kids (first come first serve)

Each morning we will meet at Blackcomb Base 2 parking lot at 9:30 and load the gondola at the mid station at 9:45. If you would like to demo some new ski lengths or brands, please be there at 9:15 or before. This location may not work for everyone, but please be there so we are all at the same place to get organized.

If you do not have a spring pass yet, please arrange that before the meeting time. Best place to buy one is the Village Base Guest Services.

For those of you with SL and GS skis, please bring SL skis on Friday and from there on your coach will let you know.

The kids will be back down at 4pm at the same location. If anything extreme happens with weather, the main Tyee raceline will be updated mid day.

In the evenings, the racers should eat/hydrate well and go to bed early so they can be fresh all 4 days.

Lastly, on Monday May 24, we are planning on having a brief KStar/MtnStar info session. This is one of the most important ages in the skier development and we've been leading the way (in BC and Canada) in setting priorities for the age.

The purpose of this meeting is to give new and present families a good idea of the objectives and how the programs fit into the Long Term Skier Development as published by Alpine Canada and BC Alpine.

Exact time and meeting location for Monday is to be announced (Tyee raceline), however we'll try to make it relatively convenient for families.

Thanks and see you all there on Friday.

Ester Stambolian (10 years old). Ester likes dogs, playing with friends, jumping, laughing, joking, running, acting crazy and she loves April fools jokes.
When he is grown up he wants to study graphic design & computer game development.
Lucia loves to draw, paint and work in ceramics and is currently taking a course in digital photography. Infact, she's the resident Plunkett photographer! Lucia has a high threshold for excitement...nothing better than skiing fast, pushing off a zipline platform, rock climbing or singing solo in front of the entire school. Lucia's motto: "Go big or go home" and "More is More"

E1/E2 Enchanted Forest Results (Racing)

To all participants in this race: Well done everybody!!! The results show again that your hard work and efforts you put into training really does pay off in the end.

The 8 year old boys swept the podium and we had 5 racers in the top 10
1 Sam Tafel
2 Cole Corrigan
3 Alexander Makarevski

8 year old girls
3 Emma Samson

9 - 10 year old boys:
1 Andrew Lee
and a very strong team with 8 racers of Grouse Tyee in the top 15 with 5 racers within a second.

9 - 10 year old girls:
1 Kristina Natalenko

and 5 other racers top 12.

And these results are also awesome given the fact that most of the Whistler kids had trained on a similar course before whereas most of the Grouse Tyee kids hadn't. So again, coaches and parents are very very proud of YOU!
