Testimonials from parents:
Brent Mooder: "As a parent, I appreciate the routine that dryland training provides for very low cost. There may be some complaining during the first few weeks, but that passes as the routine is set and dryland becomes part of what we do. I also find that I am more active when my kids are in dryland: I often go for a bike ride, a run, or a walk while they train."
Holly Flynn: "My kids are in great physical shape when they do the Tyee dryland training, and they don't realize how much exercise they are actually doing because they have so much fun. I also found that my kids got to know their team mates much better during dryland. I highly recommend it for new families to get their "feet wet" with the club."
Growth and maturation research tells us of the importance of acquiring physical skills (agility, balance, coordination, speed) before the big growth spurt kicks in during the teenage years. This period has to be looked at as an opportunity to expose and teach the youngsters as much general athletic knowledge as possible.
Furthermore, as they hit puberty, muscles, bones, ligaments and tendons stretch and grow. During this period it is key to continue working on the above skills if the individual is to adapt to their new bodies and progress to specific athletic skills. It is also the easiest way to improve your on-snow performance and prevent injuries!
With that in mind, Grouse Mtn Tyee is proud to announce our dryland training program, open to all Tyee racers U10, U12, U14, U16 VST and Mstars. Kids younger than 8 are welcome to the sessions, however for safety reasons they should be independent and able to follow coaches' instructions. All groups meet at the same location but are then separated into categories according to programs. Each category has their own dryland program.
Sessions will progress in specificity and intensity. Of course all of the activities will keep motivation and fun factor in mind. These sessions are designed by Tyee/VST and run in cooperation with other clubs in our zone so you may see your buddies from other clubs.
Gymnastics/trampoline at Flicka for U12 and U14
Our Tyee led gymnastics program has been very successful and we have again established a timeslot in Flicka's busy schedule. Check out the website regularly on any updates or registration details for this event.

Fitness Testing
Check out our website for updates on fitness testing. Although the kids like comparing their scores to each other, the main focus is to benchmark and measure own fitness improvements in each training block. The coaches also look at the various tests to identify any potential weaknesses and imbalances in the racer’s bodies. There is no cost for the dryland testing and all kids are invited.
The second fitness testing event in all takes place on 8 September 2019 (check out the link on upcoming events at our website or go to the calendar).

Tyee Mountain Biking
NO mountain biking scheduled at the moment
If there are parents that have a mountain bike instructor certification, please, let us know at dryland@grousetyee.com.
If your family is already involved in other sports during the school year, we encourage you to pursue those sports 100%. You can use our fitness program as a supplement and expose the kids to ski specific movements.
