Titouan Olanié's Vision For VST

"I am very excited to take over the VST group. I believe there is a way to have fun while working hard.  By ski racing you learn a lot of life skills. I am looking forward to working with a group of talented and motivated athletes, and helping every one of them reach their goal no matter what it is."

Congratulations on your new roll as VST head coach.  You've been around the club for a few years now.  How long have you coached with Tyee and in what rolls?

I have been coaching with TYEE for the last 4 years. Started in U12 with Tamara, then in U14 with Ryan Patience, last season with Ryan Jazic.

Do you have any funny stories around Tyee or how you got involved?

I have plenty of funny stories on hill but I think my favorite is how I got into TYEE. I met Quentin Ciudad randomly as he was living next door, and then we realized that we have tons of friends in common back in France but we didn't know each other. As he was moving up to VST, he asked me if I would be interested in working with a U12 group. And now, here I am!

How did you get into ski racing?

A little bit of background. I grew up in the French Alps. My dad is a ski instructor and we had a ski run right on our front door so I started skiing when I was 1 and a half-year-old, and skied at least once a year ever since. Then I went to school for skiers and got selected for the provincial team where I stayed for 2 seasons. My FIS years didn't work as expected so I decided to switch to ski cross where I qualified for a few starts in Europa cup. I got a really bad injury and that's when I decided to stop racing to go to school and coach.

What type of coach would you consider yourself?

I would define my coaching style as someone who is ready to help every athlete to reach their goal as long as they put in the work to get wherever they want. Skiing is a very hard sport mentally as you spend the whole year with a team, but once you're in the starting gate it is just you. Skiing is a team sport except for 2 runs at a race, and having a great team spirit goes a long way to help everyone reach their goals. To quote the Norwegian team "you're not good until you make someone else better"

What type of music do you listen to?

I'm a big fan of French rap, so those names will probably not ring any bells, but I would say Nekfeu, Booba, and Orelsan. to name an English artist, I grew up listening to Eminem. 'Lose yourself' and 'When I'm gone' were my two race song before the start.

What social media platform(s) are you on?

For social media, I'm mostly using Instagram. My feed is mostly filled with skiers and memes!
