To get to know Ryan, the U14 Head Coach, our team decided to do a Q&A!
Years of coaching experience?
Favourite run at Grouse Mountain?
Shredded hash-browns, sunny side up eggs, sausage, and bacon all cut up and mixed together drizzled with maple syrup.
Best mountain/place you've gone skiing?
Hudson Bay Mountain in Smithers B.C.
What brought you to coach within the alpine ski racing community?
When I stopped racing I knew I didn't want to leave the community of Tyee. I quickly found a love for coaching.
What does an ideal ski day look like for you?
First chair, Bluebird, -5 degrees, steep and deep powder with freshly groomed cat tracks.
If you could switch coaching roles for one day with any other Tyee coach, who would you switch with?
VST. It is always fun to see where the athletes I had in U14 are now and to see how much they've grown.
How do you know when you’ve delivered an on-snow coaching session of high quality?
Goals are achieved. This is the ideal perfect day.
I know a day is of high quality when the athletes and coaches make a step in the right direction. We are all learning everyday and small wins create big wins.
Highlight of your career as an athlete? In what sport?
Ski racing. The second split of the downhill in Apex - devils drop. I had the best feeling and fastest section of a run ever.
If you could give only one piece of advice to your athletes for the rest of your coaching career, what would tell them?
Your best is good enough, but good enough isn't your best.
Describe Grouse Tyee in one word.
