On February 26 and 27, 2022 at Grouse Mountain, the Grouse Tyee Ski Club hosted 158 U12 athletes in the 2022 Tyee Cup. Racers from six ski clubs including Cypress Ski Club, Mt Seymour Ski Club, Whistler Mountain Ski Club, Mount Washington Ski Club, Sasquatch Ski Club, and Grouse Mountain Tyee Ski Club gathered to race in the kinder kombi, giant slalom, tall-gate slalom, and stubbie slalom events. Day one, we ran GS in the morning, and Kombi in the afternoon. Day two, we had Stubbie in the morning and Tall Gates Slalom in the afternoon.
On day one of the weekend, the kids had great sunny conditions! Day two conditions were poor with heavy snow and some rain. The snow was very wet, but racers persevered through the weather conditions!
All the kids were in great spirits and excited on day one. With the heavy snow and some rain on Day 2, the kids found the Stubbie race challenging with the slushy conditions. The weather cleared up nicely in the afternoon of Day 2 for the Tall Gates Slalom run and finished the day off strong.
