U12 Recap from Head Coach Tamara Schaupp

What a weekend — racing and training all on one weekend!

Recap on the race:

We had 5 coaches with 36 U12 athletes participate at the Sasquatch Cup and there was great skiing all around!

Considering the limited hillspace and time in gates we had, all of the athletes presented themselves well with great performances in a challenging course. Yes, Tyees know how to ski! All the days of technical free-ski may have helped.  :)

Thank you to all the parents — you brought your kids prepared — it was a lot of last minute scramble with those lift tickets for sure.

What coaches saw:

  • Great team spirit — cheering on each other and bringing jackets down for teammates. Tyees stood out yet again (muscle emoji here).
  • Great time management — being at the top of the course when they needed to be
  • Great personal best skiing — kids skied tactically well in a rutty course
  • Good inspection effort

Ski racing article of the week: On Importance of success AND failure in ski racing on the team page - please review with your kids.

In a nutshell:

"I define success as giving your best effort, performing to the best of your ability, and achieving your goals. I define failure as not trying your hardest, not performing as well as you can, and not reaching your goals. The nice thing about these definitions is that they’re within your control, you’ll feel less pressure, you’ll ski better, and as a result, you will probably win more." (Dr. Jim Taylor)

We are still working on formulating goals, which is not an easy task.
