With this season's shortage of snow at the local mountains, many of our Coast Zone races were postponed, rescheduled, or cancelled altogether this year. Thankfully, some events were relocated to other mountains in recent weeks.
There has been a flurry of races in the past few weeks, including the U14 Teck Coast Zone race at Whistler, U16 Teck Open at Whistler, and U14 BC Winter Games at Apex. We've gathered up some great photos from these events to share here.
As always, congratulations on the great efforts from all the athletes and also the help and support of all the coaches, event organizers, parents, and volunteers for making these races happen!
Congratulations to all the racers at the U14 Teck Coast Zone Race at Whistler. Grouse Tyee athletes performed spectacularly at the two-day event and placed very well overall.
Thank you also to the parents and volunteers who stepped up to help out at this event. Parent and volunteer Starter, Henry Lee, remarked "A great race. It was a tale of two cities in weather — bluebird and then cloudy flurries. It was a challenging course but Tyee girls and boys did great. Also Tyee parents did a great job stepping up for volunteer spots. And the Tyee kids were a huge part of course cleanup both days."

The Bob Parsons Memorial race commemorates the legacy of Bob Parsons, a native of Vancouver, BC, who began skiing in the late 1940s. Bob played a pivotal role in establishing the Vancouver Ski Team in 1969, a precursor to today's BC Ski Team. The Memorial Cup, named in his honour, recognizes his extensive contributions as Chief of Course for Whistler's major downhill races until his passing in 1979.

It was great to see our U16 Tyee athletes racing on Ptarmigan at the Dave Murray National Training Centre on Whistler. Our U8 teams even stopped by to cheer the racers on and catch a glimpse of the race in between making snowmen and throwing snowballs at the bottom of the course.
As well, three-time Olympic medallist Lindsey Vonn happened to be at the Chic Pea on Whistler and stopped by the race course to visit the racers.
Full results from the Bob Parsons Memorial Cup and the Teck BC Coast Zone races are available here and here.

Due to low snow conditions at Troll Mountain in Quesnel, the organizers were unable to host the alpine events of the 2024 BC Winter Games. Thankfully Apex Mountain Resort near Penticton was able to host the Teck Okanagan Zone Race and also host the qualified BC Games skiers from across BC. This allowed all the U14 skiers who had qualified for the event to continue to compete together.
Congratulations to all the U14 racers on their efforts and performance at Apex!
